Former Western Kentucky quarterback Brandon Doughty sold his precision to NFL organizations Friday after winning the Quicken Loans QB Accuracy Competition at the All-Star Football Challenge in Arlington, Texas.
In the event that aired nationally on ESPN2, Doughty described himself as an “accurate quarterback” after winning the skills competition.

“I put the ball where I want to put it, and I keep improving on that,” Doughty said in a TV interview after his win. “I think accurate quarterbacks are one in a million in the NFL. I have to keep making sure that I expand my game and get better every day, and give myself a chance to play in the NFL one day. It’s a dream of mine.”
Doughty finished with 226 points and bested Southern California’s Cody Kessler in a long-distance throw tiebreaker. Ohio State’s Cardale Jones was third with 188 points.
The competition was taped earlier last week at the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium.
Doughty also told the story in his pre-performance interview of having the opportunity in high school to work a couple of times with former Miami Dolphins star quarterback Dan Marino.
Doughty has mentioned several times that the Hall of Famer was one of his childhood heroes growing up in south Florida.
He eventually finished ahead of Marino – a college star at Pittsburgh – in many statistical categories, including career passing yards and touchdowns.

Before shattering those records, Doughty had the chance to take some tips from Marino as a youngster at North Broward (Fla.) Prep School.
“That guy is one of the best quarterbacks of all-time,” Doughty said. “He was an idol of mine growing up, and I got the luxury of being coached by my idol. That’s kind of cool and an honor.”
The All-Star Football Challenge will also have an encore airing on ESPN at 4 p.m. CST April 9, and ESPN2 will air an encore at 6 p.m. CST April 25.
