- After his guitar solo closing the Perfect Confusion reunion show, Thomas Bullen talks to band-member Jared Champion, drummer for Cage The Elephant, at Tidball’s Sounds and Spirits on Thanksgiving weekend.
Members of Cage The Elephant—lead vocalist Matt Shultz , guitarist Brad Shultz and drummer Jared Champion— reunited with Perfect Confusion band-members and performed as headliners for a sold-out show at Tidball’s Sounds and Spirits late last month.
Artists also included in the line-up were psychedelic pop punk three-piece Maélle, fronted by Daniel Shultz, with drummer Kendrick Brent and keyboardist Spencer Woods, and alternative band Brad The Dad and Novus de Vetus.
Perfect Confusion (2001-2005) was formed while the Shultz brothers and Champion were in high school and bound to offer a sound today’s rock genre didn’t envelope: the feel of the 1970s sound and culture they are heavily influenced by.
In a 2005 interview with the Daily News, Shultz said: “There’s definitely a chance to goof off and have fun and let your hair down” at a Perfect Confusion performance. The 2015 crowd at Tiball’s let their hair down and head-banged along with Shultz. too.
