Western Kentucky coach Jeff Brohm largely denied comment on recent job speculation Thursday in his final interview before Saturday’s Conference USA championship game, saying he’s focused on the task at hand.

“I don’t really talk about other jobs right now, or rumors or speculation out there,” Brohm said. “I’m totally committed to this university and winning this football game. That’s what I have to say.”

Speculation picked up Thursday that Brohm could be a candidate for the head coaching vacancy at Virginia.

The Cavaliers’ Scout.com site reported via a source that an interview with Brohm “is likely to happen early next week and both Brohm and UVA are interested.

“Nothing has been set in stone, but both parties are interested and things could move quick towards an interview,” the report said.

The report also reaffirms previous reports that Brohm does not want to interview with anyone before Saturday’s Conference USA championship game against Southern Miss.

Bowl projections have also started to intensify, with ESPN reporting Thursday that WKU is likely to face South Florida and former Hilltopper coach/player Willie Taggart in the Miami Beach Bowl.

That adds up to a healthy list of distractions with Southern Miss on deck Saturday, but Brohm said his team will have the blinders on this week like it has all season.

“That’s kind of how we’ve worked all year,” he said. “We take it one game at a time. Our team believes in that philosophy. Our coaches do.”
