As the holiday season approaches, more businesses and churches will have bazaars, craft fairs and open houses to help people get in the holiday spirit.

League member Donna Ludwig said 18 vendors from southcentral Kentucky will be on hand, as well as some from Tennessee. Members have made crafts, baking, gift jars and Christmas decorations. Holy Trinity Lutheran School will provide a lunch of soup, sandwiches, dessert and a drink for a fee.
“The vendors will have jewelry, embroidery, sewing, quilts, plants, pottery, wood items, garden decorations and origami art,” she said. “It’s just going to be really exciting.”
A silent auction with items that were donated from more than 30 Bowling Green businesses, including the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center, Orchestra Kentucky, The Symphony at WKU, Ace Hardware, Mariah’s restaurant and Barbara Stewart Interiors, is planned. Gift wrapping will be available.
Proceeds go to different entities in Bowling Green, such as HOTEL INC, Christian Family Radio and The Salvation Army. A portion also goes to Lutheran World Relief.
“They provide quilts, school kits for kids who can’t go to school without them, health kits and provide water throughout third world countries. We help supply their needs,” Ludwig said. “They also make pillowcase dresses for children in third world countries. Lutheran World Relief is one of the largest philanthropic organizations in the world.”
Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheese, 2033 Thomerson Park Road in Austin, will have an open house from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call 888-571-4029.

“We’ll have samples of our cheeses as we make 30 different kinds, as well as other products we have in the store,” said Jeanette Stumpenhorst, Kenny’s office manager. “We’ll have gift boxes out on display.”
Guests can see the cows in the nearby barn as well as look through a large glass window into the creamery where the cheese is made, Stumpenhorst said.
“We do have a lot of repeat customers who come back year after year. It’s a lot of fun. It gets you in the spirit for Christmas,” she said. “We have local people and some from long distances, like Louisville and Nashville. We try to send out email blasts to people. We post it on our website. We get it out there.”
People like the products, Stumpenhorst said.
“For people who have never been here, they can taste the different cheeses that we offer. You find something in common when you find a cheese that you like and a conversation gets started,” she said. “We process the cheese here. Everything’s made here on the farm.”
