Man charged with burglaries

Warren County Sheriff’s Office deputies Wednesday arrested a Portland, Tenn., man who is accused of three burglaries and multiple thefts.
Deputies have received multiple reports of thefts and burglaries in the Smiths Grove area over the last several days. Items were taken from businesses, vehicles and homes. One firearm was reported stolen. During the course of the investigation, deputies responded to 317 E. Fourth St., Smiths Grove, where they found numerous stolen items including the firearm, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Michael Chastain, 20, is charged with first-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking controlled substance under $10,000, four counts of theft by unlawful taking under $500, four counts of third-degree criminal mischief, theft by unlawful taking (firearm) and possession of burglary tools, according to the release. Chastain’s parents live at the address where the items were found, sheriff’s office spokesman Stephen Harmon said.
Chastain is in Warren County Regional Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
Update — Police in Greenfield, Ind., found a missing Bowling Green teen at 12:42 p.m. Wednesday.
Hannah Schutt, 15, who was reported to Kentucky State Police as missing Sept. 23, left Bowling Green and made her way to Indiana, where she was staying with extended family Wednesday until she could be reunited with her custodial parent, KSP Post 3 spokesman Trooper B.J. Eaton said.
Prior to being reported missing, she took some personal items that indicated she left on her own and was last seen walking on Bristow Road toward nearby railroad tracks.
She was found unharmed.

State police promotions — Kentucky State Police recognized the promotion of 52 officers throughout the state at a ceremony Wednesday in Lexington. Three lieutenant colonels, four majors, eight captains, 13 lieutenants and 24 sergeants were commissioned.
Sgt. Charles D. White was promoted to lieutenant and transferred from Post 3 in Bowling Green to Post 1 in Mayfield. A resident of Clarkson, White is a 12-year veteran of the agency.
Trooper 1st Class Jeremy W. Smith was promoted to sergeant and will remain at Post 3 Bowling Green. A resident of Cave City, Smith is a 10-year veteran of the agency.
Other promotions announced are at posts outside of the Post 3 area.
Auto theft — A man in the 200 block of Old Porter Pike told the Bowling Green Police Department on Tuesday that someone entered his apartment through a door he had been having trouble keeping latched, stole his car keys, stole six bowling balls in two bags and then stole his 2007 Cadillac Escalade, according to city police records.
Nothing else was removed from the home. The man’s cellphone was in the SUV.
Burglary — The owner of Milk and Honey Bakery, 1660 Scottsville Road, reported Monday morning that her business was burglarized overnight, city police records show.
Someone pried open the front door, stole cash from the cash register and stole a bank deposit bag, according to police records.
