Curtis Haywood II, a three-star wing from Oklahoma, is close to committing to Western Kentucky, according to his father.
Haywood’s father, also named Curtis, told the Daily News via Twitter that his son is close to giving a verbal pledge to the Tops. Haywood II later told the Daily News he’s “very close” to choosing WKU.

Haywood took an official visit to WKU last month. The Hilltoppers were the first Division I offer for the 6-foot-4, 187-pound prospect, who’s since picked up offers from Texas Tech, SMU, Houston, Fresno State, Mercer and Illinois State.
“They said they like my game and like how I play,” Haywood told the Daily News in July at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam Finals in North Augusta, S.C. “I’m definitely interested.”
In one of the games at Peach Jam, WKU assistant coach Shawn Forrest watched Haywood fill up the stat sheet for the Athletes First AAU program with 12 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and four assists.
Haywood plays his prep ball at Mustang High School in Oklahoma. His father played professionally in the United States and overseas.
The elder Haywood was recruited by WKU coach Ray Harper when the latter coached Kentucky Wesleyan. He said the only reason he didn’t play for Harper was because his girlfriend, now his wife, was pregnant with the younger Haywood at the time.
The elder Haywood played college ball at Oklahoma City University instead and would later return in the summers to work out while Harper was the coach from 2005-08, during which time the two reconnected.
