Eli Wright, a three-star 2016 shooting guard, is leaving the state and reportedly eliminating Western Kentucky from consideration.

Wright announced on Twitter on Friday that he’ll transfer from Owensboro’s Apollo High School to IMG Academy in Florida for his senior season.

Wright told the Daily News in July that he was considering prep school for his senior year.

He told the Louisville Courier-Journal on Friday after his announcement that he took an official visit to Florida this month and has planned visits to Oklahoma State and Mississippi State.

Wright told the Courier-Journal he’s also still considering Wake Forest, Connecticut, Indiana and Florida State.

WKU was in Wright’s top-10 list of schools he released in the spring, but his stock soared during the July AAU period while playing with the Kentucky-based Hoop Dreams program.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound prospect averaged 20.6 points and 7.5 rebounds as a junior at Apollo.

Wright said in July he and WKU assistant coach Chris Shumate “talked all the time” when Shumate was an assistant at Tennessee.

“That’s cool, because that’s my guy,” Wright said. “Western’s close to home. It feels like home.”

Wright is the second major blow to the Kentucky high school hoops scene.

Former Perry County Central guard Braxton Beverly announced in May that he’s heading to Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia for his senior season. Both were considered top candidates for Mr. Basketball next year.

Beverly, a three-star prospect, remains a major WKU target, especially after four-star Taylor County guard Quentin Goodin’s commitment Sunday to Xavier.
