HILLTOPPER FOCUS: Price playing with Bulls in NBA summer league; Tops in European Championship

Former Western Kentucky standout guard T.J. Price will play for the Chicago Bulls in the NBA Summer League, the organization announced Tuesday. 

Chicago starts its schedule at 5:30 p.m. CDT Saturday against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Each team is guaranteed to play at least five games.

Among Price’s teammates with the Bulls squad are former Creighton star Doug McDermott and Bobby Portis, the Bulls’ first-round draft pick out of Arkansas.

The Las Vegas summer league features 24 teams and runs from Friday through July 20 at the COX Pavilion and Thomas & Mack Center. The NBA also holds summer leagues in Orlando and Salt Lake City throughout July. 

Price ended his college career as WKU’s all-time leader in three-pointers (286) and finished sixth in career scoring (1,782 points). He appeared in 125 games and made 109 starts during his four seasons as a Hilltopper, and he played in two NCAA Tournaments. He averaged 14.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game for his career.

Gluditis leads Toppers on day one of European Championship

WKU incoming freshman guard Kristaps Gluditis scored nine points Tuesday to help his native Latvia to a 61-50 win over Greece in the opening game of the FIBA Under-20 European Championship in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy. 

Gluditis, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, was 3-for-5 from the floor and 1-for-4 from 3-point range. He added two assists and one rebound in 22 minutes.

Latvia faces Serbia on Wednesday in its second game.

Great Britain, which features WKU rising junior center Ben Lawson and incoming freshman center Nathan Smith, lost a heartbreaker in overtime Tuesday to Turkey, 59-57.

Lawson had one point and four rebounds in 18-plus minutes. Smith did not play.

Great Britain plays Slovenia on Wednesday.
