Dr. James J. Williams, 89, passed into the glory of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with the sure hope of seeing his wife, Nancy, who preceded him in death.
After graduating from Barrington Bible College in Providence, R.I., he and his family served with Sudan Interior Mission in Ethiopia. He pastored the church in Addis Ababa, built churches, schools and clinics in the back bush and had the pleasure of hosting Emperor Haile Selassie at one of the compounds. Upon his return to the United States, he was superintendent of Market Street Mission in Morristown, N.J. Then, he pastored the First Baptist Church of Anglesea in N. Wildwood, N.J. Jim retired and eventually moved to Bowling Green with his wife. He was a member of Richpond Baptist Church.
Jim was the oldest of nine children born to the late James Williams and Alice Cook Williams of Boston. He will be missed by his four children: Elizabeth Bauthier, James Williams, Eileen Williams and Sara Latsko; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and many friends and family throughout the United States.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Richpond Baptist Church, with a private burial at Woodburn Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Sudan Interior Mission Ethiopia (www.sim.org) or Hospice of Southern Kentucky.
