Thief steals nearly $700 in fireworks

A thief or thieves entered a fireworks tent Sunday at 4886 Scottsville Road and made off with $690 worth of goods, according to the Bowling Green Police Department.
The owner of the tent slept in his truck on the premises because of problems with thefts.
He went to sleep about midnight Sunday and woke up at 7:30 a.m. to check the tent. That’s when he discovered that a thief or thieves stole bottle rockets, fountains, Roman candles and jumping jack fireworks. The owner told police he believed someone crawled under a tent flap, according to city police records.
Burglary — A resident of the 1400 block of North Sunrise Drive told city police Sunday that someone broke into her home overnight and stole $350 cash.
The burglar got in through an unlocked window and ransacked the woman’s bedroom dresser drawers where she kept the cash.
Drug arrest — Logan County Sheriff’s Sgt. Clint Wright was on patrol Saturday when he saw Dwight D. Markham walking on Dunmore Deerlick Road.
Wright knew an active warrant was issued for Markham on a failure to appear allegation in Muhlenberg County, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department.
Wright arrested Markham and found suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on his person, according to the release. Markham was charged with first-degree possession of controlled substance (meth), third or greater offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Markham, 58, is in Logan County Detention Center in lieu of a $5,000 cash bond.
Burglary arrest —A Russellville man was arrested Tuesday on three Logan County burglary charges.
On June 10, Logan County Sheriff’s Sgt. Clint Wright investigated a burglary at 735 Lester McReynolds Road in Lewisburg, where several thousand dollars worth of power tools and lawn care items were stolen. During that investigation, Wright received information that some of the stolen items were sold at a Bowling Green pawn shop. Deputies learned that Richard L. Barnett of Russellville pawned the items, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
Barnett was charged with one count of second-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree burglary and two counts of receiving stolen property under $10,000. Barnett, 58, is jailed without bond.
Drug investigations — Barren River Drug Task Force officers arrested a Glasgow man Monday on an indictment warrant charging him with drug trafficking within 1,000 feet of a school.
The Barren County indictment was the result of an investigation that included undercover drug buys from Billy Joe Wynn, 42, 318 McKenna St., according to a task force news release. In addition to the trafficking charge, Wynn is charged with a misdemeanor warrant on trafficking marijuana less than 8 ounces, according to the release.
Tuesday, detectives arrested Zachariah Dylan Mesker, 20, 8645 New Bowling Green Road, Smiths Grove, on an indictment warrant in the same case, according to the release. He is also charged with trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school. Both are in Barren County Detention Center. Mesker’s bond is set at $5,000. Wynn’s bond has not been set.
In an unrelated case, the task force served an indictment warrant on Joseph Bell, 35, 100 Monroe St. in Barren County, on a charge of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance less than 2 grams of methamphetamine and second-degree persistent felony offender. Bell is jailed in lieu of a $9,500 bond.
The task force served another Barren County indictment warrant on David Hall Jr. 25, of Whites Chapel Road, on a charge of manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and second-degree persistent felony offender. Hall is jailed in lieu of a $9,500 bond.
Vandalism — Glasgow Police Department officers have answered numerous complaints of vandalism in the last few months. Complaints involve eggs thrown at cars and homes, spray-painted vehicles, homes and other structures and vehicles scratched with keys or other objects.
Vandals can be charged with criminal mischief, and if the damage is $1,000 or more, the charge becomes felony, which carries a sentence of one to five years.
