Ryan Pennell and Brian Miller each worked a scoreless inning in relief to secure the sixth shutout of the season for Bowling Green (32-25) and the first since April 30.

Gillaspie provided the offense with his homer to open the second – his 12th home run of the season – and an RBI fielder’s choice to score Thomas Milone in the sixth.

The win moves the Hot Rods one game back of Lansing (Mich.) for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division and 11/2 games ahead of Dayton (Ohio) for a wild-card spot with 13 games remaining in the first half of the season.

Bowling Green will wrap up the series in Clinton and the road trip at 6:30 p.m. tonight.

Henry Centeno (3-2, 4.83 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Hot Rods against the LumberKings’ Tyler Herb (2-2, 5.80).
