A fence extension project is in the works on Louisville Spur Road near the U.S. 31-W and Interstate 65 interchange.

Operation P.R.I.D.E. Executive Director Angie Alexieff told the board of directors Tuesday that AEP Industries Inc. of Bowling Green will pay $4,999 toward the extension of a black fence along the road. Operation P.R.I.D.E.’s cost is $1,733. The board accepted the donation.

The fence would mirror other black fencing in the area. About 525 feet of fence is planned. Greenwood Landscape Contractors would do the work, according to its $6,700 bid which was also accepted by the board.

Board member Jeff Moore said work on the project needs to be delayed to this fall while discussions about the overall intersection continue with Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and local officials.

There is a state Transportation Cabinet project to begin construction of a signalized access from Hennessy Way to Interstate Drive. The project will include road widening and construction of turning lanes near the National Corvette Museum. A $408,334 contract has been awarded to Scotty’s Contracting & Stone of Bowling Green.

Additionally, with the announced new paint shop at the General Motors Bowling Green Assembly Plant, county, city, state and GM officials are looking at traffic counts in the area. Moore said the fence project should be delayed at least until the end of the summer while that examination continues.

“Intersection alternatives should be to the public by September,” Moore said.

In other matters, Alexieff told the board officer elections are set for the July meeting. Brenda Hale chairs the nominating committee.

Alexieff said P.R.I.D.E. received a $5,000 donation from a donor who asked not to be identified and $2,000 from the Community Foundation of Southcentral Kentucky. She said the money will be spent on mowing. P.R.I.D.E. will take responsibility for mowing the right of way along Louisville Road from Porter Pike Road to the bridge on Jan. 1. The board will put that section out for bid in time for next spring’s and summer’s mowing season, the executive director said.
