Western Kentucky rising sophomore guard Avery Patterson posted on Twitter on Tuesday that he’s leaving the school.

“I had fun while it lasted at Western Kentucky but on to the next chapter in my life,” Patterson tweeted.

WKU later officially confirmed the 6-foot, 190-pound guard’s departure.

Patterson, a Decatur, Ga., native,  appeared in 20 games as a freshman without making a start, averaging 1.8 points over 5.4 minutes per contest.

He’s the fourth scholarship guard from the 2014-15 roster to leave WKU early. WKU coach Ray Harper confirmed Tuesday the departure of rising sophomore guard DJ Clayton, who’s headed to Palm Beach State College.

Junior-college transfer Ayinde Sprewell transferred in December, citing a desire for more playing time. Senior guard Kevin Kaspar also left in December after graduating to pursue a professional career in his native Turkey.

Walk-ons Brandon Price and Rob Marberry have also left the program in the offseason. Forward Justin Johnson is the only remaining member of WKU’s 2014 freshman class.

Patterson is WKU’s 16th early departure by a scholarship player or a walk-on with a significant role since spring 2012.
