Western Kentucky basketball target Kyle Alexander officially committed Thursday to Tennessee.

“Proud to announce that this fall I will be attending the University of Tennessee. Can’t wait to get it started! #GoVols @Vol_Hoops” Alexander posted on Twitter.

Reports Wednesday night indicated Alexander had narrowed his decision to Tennessee and New Mexico.

Alexander – a 6-10, 200-pound senior center from Orangeville Prep in Ontario, Canada – was considered one of WKU’s top priorities coming into the spring signing period after building a longstanding relationship.

Alexander’s father, Joe Alexander, told Hoops Hype Canada last month that WKU had recruited his son more than any other program.

“Western Kentucky are relentless in a very good way,” Joe Alexander said in the interview. “They have a very high basketball program for sure, developed a lot of pros and has been in the NCAA tournament.”

But other programs came calling over the course of the 2014-15 season, and Alexander took official visits to Tennessee and New Mexico over the last two weeks. The Volunteers got involved very recently after hiring Rick Barnes as coach.

Alexander also took official visits to Rice and St. Bonaventure. He took an unofficial visit to WKU in March while his team was playing in an event at McCracken County.
