South Florida transfer quarterback Mike White will visit Western Kentucky this weekend as he searches for a new college program.
White shares a connection with WKU sixth-year senior QB Brandon Doughty, in that they’re both from Florida and work in the offseason with the same private quarterback coach, Ken Mastrole.

Mastrole, who runs the Mastrole Quarterback Academy out of Estero, Fla., told the Daily News on Thursday that he could see White adapting well to the Hilltoppers’ offensive scheme.
The rising junior will have two years of eligibility remaining after he sits out one season per NCAA transfer rules.
“He’s got the mental side,” Mastrole said. “I think that’s always the biggest question mark – how a quarterback is going to adapt to a new offense. I think Mike has the tools to fit that Western Kentucky offense – the heavy passing offense that does a great job of implementing the run game as well within the system. Mike’s going to flourish in a traditional, sit-in-the-pocket offense between the tackles, but not be expected to run a wide-open spread and ask him to run the zone spread. That’s not his forte. I think it would be a nice fit.
“With the success that Brandon has had, I think Mike would be a nice addition to what coach Brohm does.”
The 6-foot-4, 211-pound White earned USF’s starting job in fall camp last season and started the first eight games for the Bulls and former WKU coach Willie Taggart.
He ultimately appeared in 11 games and started 10, completing 122 of 242 passes for 1,639 yards and eight touchdowns with seven interceptions.

He started five games as a freshman and passed for 1,083 yards with three TDs and nine interceptions.
The Tampa Bay (Fla.) Times reported Tuesday that Florida, Southern Miss and Florida International have also inquired about White.
“He’s got the prototypical passing size,” Mastrole said. “He’s got a big, strong arm. He can really get it out there. He has very impressive arm strength. His physical tools have big upside. He’s been in an NFL, pro-style system for the last two years and has started. At South Florida, they run a pro-style playbook that you see in the NFL with the West Coast stuff.”
White has worked with Mastrole, a former college and pro quarterback, for about three years since he was in high school.
Mastrole also has a longstanding relationship with Doughty, who worked some this offseason and before the 2014 campaign with the coach.
Mastrole said his goal is never to step on the toes of college coaches when working with their players, so he tries to offer small bits of advice that can advance their careers.
Doughty was focused in the offseason on improving his footwork and anticipation, Mastrole said.
“I never want to interfere with the goal at hand right now,” he said. “I don’t try to go and talk and project for the NFL, because I want them to enjoy their college years. I always just try to give them little things, like maybe go spend time with teammates that you’ve never spent time with to build that chemistry. You’ve got to kind of be the guy that ultimately changes the attitude. The thing I’ve been really impressed with Brandon is that he’s really pushed. I think he’s really enjoying this experience because of what coach Brohm has taught him. What coach Brohm has brought to the table for him has totally changed his outlook on the game.
“I think he really enjoyed this last year. He’s pushing to be the best. He had such a great year. I don’t think statistically he’s trying to copy any of that, but he just knows where a few weaknesses are that he wants to hone in on.”
