GLASGOW – With the Glasgow Lady Scotties looking to make some noise, it was Allen County-Scottsville senior Morgan Rich who made a statement in Allen County-Scottsville’s 49-35 win at Glasgow on Tuesday.

Rich scored 18 straight points for Allen County-Scottsville (10-3 overall, 2-0 District 15) in the second half, helping the No. 1 ranked team in the Bowling Green Daily News Area Top 10 pull away from its District 15 rival and snap the Lady Scotties’ eight-game district win streak.

The University of Kentucky signee finished with a game-high 25 points and added 10 rebounds.

“Coach tells me to be the leader on the floor,” Rich said. “I know if we are struggling I have to be the one to carry the team. I have great teammates to back me up if I am getting to the lane. They depend on me in certain situations, so I know I have to be there and carry them on my back.”

ACS nearly led Glasgow (11-4, 2-1) wire-to-wire, with the Lady Scotties’ only lead coming at 2-0.

With Rich shadowing Elli Bartley and Savannah Gregory guarding Breanna Glover, ACS held the Lady Scotties to six points in the first quarter, building a 13-6 advantage.

Rich and Gregory both picked up their second fouls in the second period. Rich played despite the foul trouble, while Gregory went to the bench. Glasgow took advantage, pulling within 17-16 on a drive to the basket by Glover with 3:14 left in the half.

Allen County-Scottsville regained the momentum, closing the half with a 7-1 spurt to push the lead back to 24-17 at the break.

Glasgow started the third quarter hot, pulling within 26-25 after a floater in the lane by Glover with 3:41 left in the period.

Rich took over from there, scoring the next 18 points for ACS.

The first six points came during a 9-2 surge to help the Lady Patriots build a 35-27 advantage after three quarters.

Rich outscored Glasgow 9-2 in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter to extend the margin to 44-29. Glasgow was unable to get closer than 13 the rest of the way.

“She is a really nice player,” Glasgow coach Justin Stinson said. “You don’t go to the (Southeastern Conference) unless you are a really nice player. We have to learn to get better. We’ll learn to get better defensively. We are by no means a finished product.”

Allen County-Scottsville shot 31 percent from the field, but outrebounded Glasgow 44-24.

Jordan Brooks was the only other ACS player to finish in double figures, scoring 10 points.

“It’s a big win on the road in a very adverse situation,” ACS coach Brad Bonds said. “Glasgow is a very good basketball team, especially on their home floor. What most people don’t realize is we were battling a couple of injuries tonight, some sickness, and some foul trouble. To be able to still go deep enough on the bench to hold things together was big for us.

“And Morgan, just being a big-time player, really knew midway through the third quarter that she had to step up and she did. That’s what big-time players do. They make plays.”

Glasgow shot 33.3 percent, scoring less the 50 points for the fifth time in eight games.

Glover finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Bartley added 10 points.

“We have to get more balance offensively,” Stinson said. “We’ve been making a lot of 3s. We probably average six or seven a game and we make zero tonight. You go 0-for-14 and you have to get some shots to go down. I thought we did a good job defensively, but Allen is a really good defensive team. They are one of the best in the state. You look at the Cantrall Ratings that came out today and they are fourth in the state, so they are a good basketball team.”

Allen County-Scottsville plays at Monroe County at 6 p.m. Friday. Glasgow travels to South Warren at 7 p.m. Friday.
