Comments today from Western Kentucky offensive coordinator Tyson Helton and redshirt-junior Tim Gorski about keeping the momentum going against Illinois.

Pressure to put up similar numbers? “No, you take one game at a time, everybody says it over and over again. The football team we’re about to play is very good football team. When I was at Cincinnati last year, same situation, we had them in the second game of the season, we had a big win and went in there and we got beat up on.
“We know hat we’re walking in to and I expect a really good game. We match up well with them. I think they’re an excellent football team, so we’ll have our hands full, but we’ll be ready to play.”
Concerned with the run game? “I think each game you just gotta attack what’s given to you. We’ll look and see. We’ve already got what we wanna do on paper, working those things out and I think we’ll be ready in the run game come Saturday.”
What do you want to see Week Two? “Consistency. That’s what we preached in the first game, ‘Hey, do your job, stick to the plan, be consistent.’ We talked about the most-consistent team for four quarters wins. We did that.
“We gotta carry that into Week Two – be consistent. There’s gonna be highs and lows. There’s gonna be good things that happen and bad things that happen, but at the end of the day, the most-consistent team will win. If we can just stay on the course, don’t turn the ball over, we’ll be just fine.”
Brandon Doughty’s national attention: “I thought he handled it really well. He’s an older a guy, he’s a senior, he’s been through the fire, he knows what it’s all about, he knows you’re gonna have some really good games and there’s gonna be games you’re gonna have to scratch and fight for everything you get.
“He enjoyed that win and the next day he was back in the office and said, ‘Alright, I’m ready for Illinois.’ ”
Illinois defense: “They play hard on defense. They don’t give you a lot. They make you work for it. I think they’re gonna walk up on top of you, try to make you earn every yard that you get.
“I think they’re gonna try to match us up in the receiver position, make us have to make throws down the field, those kind of things.
“We gotta go into that game saying, ‘Hey, our players need to make the plays that are given to ‘em.’ We’ll get the ball to the right guys, but they’re gonna make us earn everything we get.”
Tim Gorski
Pressure to put same numbers? “No, I wouldn’t say so. We’re gonna go out each week and take each team differently. We’re just gonna go out there and do what we have to do to get the win.”
The game on a personal level: “It’s gonna be good. I’m gonna know a lot of people in the stands, but we’re just gonna go out there and do what we have and I’m not really gonna focus on that until the end of the game, just worry about the game.”
Avoiding the let-down: “Yeah we’re gonna go out there, we’re gonna put the past behind us and we’re gonna focus on this game as if it were the first game of the season.
“We’re gonna go out there and, really, just give it our all, not worrying about the week ahead or the week behind, just focus on this game and do everything we have to do to get the ‘W’.”
Run game: “I thought it was good. I know (Allen) got some good carries and when (Wales) came in he did really well. Our offensive line did a great job opening up holes. The pass game may have opened up some of the run for us, so I think we’re gonna be really good this week.”
