Bowling Green football coach Kevin Wallace confirmed to the Daily News on Wednesday he had talks last week with a school in Florida about its vacant coaching position, but withdrew his name before the interview process.
Multiple reports out of Florida named Wallace as a candidate for the coaching job at Manatee High School in Bradenton, Fla., with Manatee’s director of athletics stating that Wallace had recently withdrawn from consideration.

Wallace said he talked with Manatee school officials last week but withdrew his name Saturday. He was scheduled to interview Monday but did not go.
“I have a great job, working with great people,” Wallace said by text message. “I was flattered to speak with Manatee, but ultimately, the timing was not right to consider the move.”
Manatee is the alma mater of former Western Kentucky University player and coach Willie Taggart. The Hurricanes have won five state championships.
Wallace has been the coach at Bowling Green since 1996 and is tied for 20th in Kentucky history with 249 all-time wins, including 209 with the Purples. He’s led BG to three straight Class 5A state titles and 44 consecutive wins heading into the 2014 season.
Wallace was named The Associated Press’ Kentucky high school football coach of the year for 2013.
