Scottsville student wins Ky. Soybean Board honor 

The Kentucky Soybean Board recently sponsored a photo contest titled “Soy Snapshots – From the Pod to Your Plate,” and Kailey Barlow of Scottsville was the winner of the cows and production categories.

Her production photo shows her standing in front of a 42-acre soybean field just before harvest, and her cows picture shows her feeding her registered Ayrshire dairy heifers. The cattle eat an 18 percent protein feed that contains soybeans, soybean meal, soy hulls and grain corn. First-place honors earned her $500 from the Kentucky Soybean Board in each category.

Kailey serves as vice president of the Allen County Future Farmers of America chapter and is the daughter of Patricia and Jimmy Barlow of Scottsville.

ACHS sophomore attends seminar at Transylvania

Cameron Cook, a sophomore at Allen County-Scottsville High School, recently attended the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar at Transylvania University in Lexington.

Cook, 17, is the son of Randy and Melissa Cook. He is involved in multiple clubs, including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Beat Club, DECA and Student Council. Cook is also a member of the Patriot basketball and baseball teams.

BG’s Bridgeman graduates from UofL’s Brandeis Law

Timothy E. Bridgeman, a 2007 graduate of Bowling Green High School and a 2011 graduate from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business, recently graduated from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law. 

The son of Eddie and Kathy Bridgeman graduated magna cum laude.

Two Greenwood students certified by Ohio institute

Greenwood High School students Ashley Scott and Chase Coston were recently certified by the Institute for Assessment of Skills and Knowledge for Business Institute in Columbus, Ohio, as high achievers in the fundamental business concepts exam. The lead instructor for the program is Holly Whittinghill. 

ASK is a nonprofit partnership of the national student organization DECA.

BG woman earns master’s at Millersville University

Amanda Howard of Bowling Green recently completed a Master of Education degree from Millersville University of Pennsylvania.

Student admitted to two Gov’s programs

Nikil Ravishankar, a junior at Greenwood High School, was admitted to the Governor’s Scholars Program and the Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs Program this summer. 

The GSP convened Sunday at Morehead State University and continues through Thursday; at Murray State University on Saturday through July 25; and at Bellarmine University, Louisville, June 22 thorugh July 26. The GSP, now in its second year, is at Georgetown College in Georgetown.

BGHS students win NATAS honors

The Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences recently announced that Bowling Green High School won a 2014 Student Production Award and honorable mentions.

Student production award winner for a music video “The Bad Rabbit Rap” went to Jonathan Schaefer, who was the producer/director/writer/performer. Jeremy Schaefer was the producer/director/editor/cinematographer for the video.

Kacy Ives was honored with a student production award honorable mention for Nnews as a reporter/videographer/editor.

The Schaefer brothers also received recognition for their short form fiction video “Dream,” which Jonathan directed and Jeremy edited. Ives received recognition for her long form nonfiction video, “Let’s Recycle, BG!” which she produced, directed, wrote, videoed, animated and narrated.

Student Production Awards will be presented Aug. 2 at the Emmy ceremony at the Hilton Downtown Columbus in Columbus, Ohio.
