Patterson shines at region meet

With a target on her back, Warren Central junior Tiavion Patterson stepped up to the challenge.

The top-ranked runner in Class 2A in the 100-meter dash, Patterson lived up to the ranking by winning in the Region 2 meet Tuesday in Bardstown. Patterson finished with a time of 12.64 seconds, earning a spot at next week’s state meet.

Patterson said she wasn’t worried about being the favorite and having the other runners gunning for her.

“I don’t feel any pressure,” Patterson said. “I still run like it is any normal meet. I feel like I have a good chance (at the state meet).”

The 100-meter dash wasn’t the only win for Patterson on Tuesday. She also played a role in a pair of relay wins for the Lady Dragons. Warren Central claimed the 4×100 relay in a time of 52.01 and won the 4×200 relay with a time of 1:50.26.

“We’ve been working hard on our relays to get first place,” Patterson said. “I thought we did a good job with that. It’s a good feeling.”

Next up for Patterson and the Lady Dragons is the state meet May 23 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
