Sue L. Kivlin, 69, a resident of Davenport, Iowa, died peacefully in the comfort of her home on May 9, 2014, following a courageous two-year battle with cancer. She had been a cancer survivor from years prior and passed after this more recent re-diagnosis.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Sue will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4097 18th St., Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., Davenport. There will be additional visitation at the church the morning of services from 10:30 a.m. until the service.
Sue Lynn Simpson was born March 7, 1945, in Bowling Green, a daughter of Eldon Lawrence and Ruth (Hanley) Simpson. She graduated from Bowling Green High School.
Sue was married to John Neblett from 1969 to 1991. She was united in marriage to Charley Kivlin on Sept. 2, 2006. They were blessed with several years of wonderful times and made many memories. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. They cherished the eight trips they took to Ireland; they will always have a special place in their hearts for their beloved Ireland. Sue had a very giving and compassionate spirit, always putting others ahead of herself. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She had been employed by the Bettendorf Schools System and served as the administrative assistant to the principal at Bettendorf High School, retiring in 2007.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Gilda’s Club of the Quad Cities or The Crisis Center of Johnson County.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Charley; her daughter, Keri Lynn Neblett (Andy Weigel) of Iowa City, Iowa; stepsons John (Jen) Kivlin and Dan (Jeanette) Kivlin, all of Davenport; grandchildren Gibson Neblett, Alison (Steve) Arvanis, Katie, Brendon and Andrew Kivlin, and Owen and Evan Kivlin; great-grandchild Eisley Arvanis; her mother, Ruth Simpson of Bowling Green; a sister, Debbie (Rob) Robbins of Paris, Tenn.; brothers Larry (Carol) Simpson of Bowling Green and Terry (Jean) Simpson of Gallatin, Tenn.; numerous nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law Cecelia (Charles) Harmeyer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Noreen (Ron) Carstens, Gahanna, Ohio.
In addition to her father, Eldon, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Dickie Simpson.
