Daily News names Imel digital media director

The Daily News has named Joe Imel the digital media director of the publishing company’s multiple platforms.
He previously served as assistant managing editor. In this role, Imel will help guide the 159-year-old newspaper through a period of adaptation and innovation, as the use of digital media and new technologies are rapidly expanding throughout the industry.

With nearly 97,000 users coming to the Daily News’ digital platforms each month and more than 45 percent using the mobile and tablet sites, Imel is tasked with marrying the Daily News’ print editions and digital platforms in a cohesive unit for our subscribers and readers.
“Joe’s new position signifies News Publishing’s commitment to delivering hyper-local news and content that matters in southcentral Kentucky,” said Scott Gaines, co-publisher of the Daily News.
The Daily News’ digital platforms include the website, mobile and tablet sites, an e-Edition and extensive use of Daily News-branded social media accounts, including the widely read@joeimel Twitter account, with nearly 16,000 followers.
Imel, an award-winning photojournalist, has been with the paper for 22 years and remains in an active role working with and advising the photo staff.
