As a varsity player since eighth grade, Bowling Green’s Meagan Ward has taken her lumps against Greenwood.
On Tuesday, the senior setter helped the Lady Purples exact some historic revenge.
Ward had five aces and numerous assists as Bowling Green (3-0, 2-0 District 14) earned its first win ever over the Lady Gators with a 3-0 (28-26, 25-13, 25-7) victory at BGHS.
“It’s been great,” she said. “We’ve been jelling really well, and I’m excited for what this season has to bring. As a senior, I really want to win district and region. We’ve been working and working toward those goals.”
Greenwood took a 9-8 lead in the first set, but with Ward at the serve, the Lady Purples rattled off a 10-2 run to open an 18-11 lead.
They overcame GHS’ set point later in the game and then found their stride with two dominant final sets.
“She’s been through different coaches’ styles – a lot of stuff,” BG coach Amy Wininger said of Ward. “There’s very few things that get her down. I love her tenacity and her attitude.”
Bowling Green returns to action tonight when it hosts Warren East.
