A man with plans to rob Domino’s Pizza this morning on Stonehenge Avenue and Veterans Memorial Lane shot and killed another man just outside the business.

“We know his intentions were to get money, but we haven’t determined how much, if any, was taken,” Bowling Green Police Department spokesman Officer Ronnie Ward said.

City police received a call reporting a robbery at 12:13 a.m. today at 2201 Stonehenge Ave., the site of one of three Bowling Green Domino’s pizza stores. When police arrived, they saw a white male shot to death on the pavement to one side of the business, Ward said.

Police confirmed late this morning that Harold Dean Johnson, 51, of Bowling Green, was killed. No arrest had been made as of press time.

Domino’s employee Jacob Bennett of Bowling Green was making his last delivery of the evening when the incident occurred. He said the victim had come to surprise his girlfriend, who works at the Stonehenge Domino’s, and had started to help employees when they received several orders at around 11 p.m., an hour before close.

Johnson worked at another Domino’s Pizza in town, Ward said.

“From what (my co-workers) told me, there was a shot, and now he’s dead,” Bennett said. “I just think it’s a shame, you know?”

Employees gathered outside and consoled one another as police milled about, looking for information about the crime.

Reviews of store video surveillance indicate the assailant is a black male, about 6 feet tall, with a black revolver, and he seemed to have his head covered.

He entered the building through the back door, Ward said.

Michelle Crowe of Bowling Green is a corrections officer at the Warren County Regional Jail and lives in a house near Domino’s. She said she was on her way to Wal-Mart to pick up some medicine to help her sleep when she noticed police cars in front of the store.

“This is a pretty peaceful neighborhood,” Crowe said. “There’s never been anything like this … The most anybody ever does is use the Wi-Fi at the laundromat.”

Police have not yet identified the man who shot the victim and have no suspects.

None of the other employees was injured.
