With the Warren East volleyball team on the verge of history, freshman outside hitter Kaley Bloyd did her part to push the Lady Raiders to the finish line.
Bloyd fueled a 14-0 run with seven aces, helping Warren East beat Greenwood 3-1 (25-17, 13-25, 25-17, 25-10) on Tuesday at Greenwood High School.
It was Warren East’s first district win since 2011 and also snapped the Lady Gators’ 100-match district win streak.
“I was just doing what I normally do,” Bloyd said. “I acted like I was serving in practice, not getting nervous and anxious.”
Bloyd finished the night with eight aces and added six kills for the Lady Raiders.
“She’s coming off a great club season,” WE coach Sheila Yokley said. “If any kid is going to be back here serving, I want it to be her because she is an in-control player all the time. She’s played in huge games and she knows what this is all about. We are going to be looking to her a lot this year.”
Warren East returns to action Friday in the Apollo Slamdown in Owensboro. The Lady Raiders will face host Apollo at 7:15 p.m. before facing Grayson County at 8:30 p.m.
