- “Stories We Tell” leaves a lasting impression
The Bowling Green Hot Rods returned home with a 6-2 win over Wisconsin on Wednesday at Bowling Green Ballpark.
Blake Snell worked a career-high seven innings to earn his first win since June 12, while Justin O’Conner added his team-high eighth homer to pace the offense in the opening game of a six-game homestand.
Here are postgame comments from Snell and manager Jared Sandberg
Sandberg
“That was an incredible game. We had a little bit of everything in that game. What a great game. I was talking to (pitching coach Kyle Synder) after the game and Kyle said that is probably one of the best defensive games he has ever seen. That was impressive.”
On Snell
“A young kid like that has dealt with some command issues and struggled to pitch late in games, that was an impressive outing by him. When you get the defense we were able to get behind him, Blake Snell can feed off that good defense. He has swing and miss type stuff and tonight he was very dominant.”
On O’Conner’s home run that broke the game open in the eighth
“For O’Conner to get the big hit, I thought that was definitely a huge swing that gave us some breathing room.”
Snell
“It’s fun. To finally go seven is one thing, but also it was good to not be behind every hitter like I’ve been this. It’s been kind of a frustrating year for me, but I’ve been working hard with (pitching coach Kyle Snyder). Now that I think we have something going here hopefully I can hop on and continue to roll.”
on what worked for him tonight
“I feel my fastball command was working. I was getting ahead of hitters and my change-up was phenomenal today. The slider was a good get-me-over to change speeds. I feel like it was all working.”
