Two Warren County events make top 10

Two car-related events in Warren County are among the state’s top 10 summer festivals this year, according to an automotive magazine.
The first, the 11th annual Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion, will be next week at Beech Bend Raceway. The event, planned for June 13-15, has become a bit of a Father’s Day weekend tradition.
Named one of the “10 Premier U.S. Events” by Painless Performance and Street Rodder magazine, the reunion includes activities all three days.
“I was thrilled that it was on the list,” said Eileen Daniels, an organizer of the event.
Daniels said that while spectator attendance is dependent on the weather, the event typically draws 20,000 to 30,000 people. The event will include 1,500 show cars, 400 to 500 nostalgia races, a swap meet and a big vendor area for new merchandise.
Reunion organizers had been signing an annual contract, but last year it was renewed for five years, Daniels said.
“This is a huge event for Bowling Green,” she said.
Duncan Hines, sales and services director for the Bowling Green Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, agreed.
“It fills up our hotels,” Hines said. “They are bringing new dollars into our community. The economic impact is invaluable from out-of-state visitors and from people from surrounding counties who come in to spectate.”
The other event in the top 10 is the 32nd annual National Corvette Homecoming at Sloan Convention Center from July 25-27.
Hines said organizers of that event expect about 400 Corvettes will compete in a car show and drivers will participate in various activities across the region. There also will be seminars, a swap meet, a fashion show and an Eagles tribute concert. About 3,000 people are expected to attend.
“For Bowling Green to get two car-related events in the top 10 is an awesome feat,” Hines said. “We go after so many different groups and automotive is one of the major ones. To beat out other communities and their events, it is something we are really excited about.”
