Western Kentucky has four players listed on Lindy’s 2013 All-Sun Belt Conference first team and two of the top four NFL prospects in the Sun Belt Conference, according to the recently released 2013 Lindy’s Sports College Football Preview.
Running back Antonio Andrews, linebacker Andrew Jackson, offensive lineman Cameron Clemmons and safety Jonathan Dowling earned first-team honors. Senior punter Hendrix Brakefield was a second team All-SBC selection by the publication. The Hilltoppers were picked to finish fourth in the publication’s preseason ranking of league teams.
Individually, Andrews is ranked as the No. 5 all-purpose threat in the nation while also ranking among the top 25 running backs in the nation according to the Lindy’s Sports Player Ratings. Jackson is rated as the 11th best inside linebacker in the nation. Jackson was also rated as the top NFL talent in the SBC with Andrews ranking fourth.
Jackson followed up his breakout sophomore campaign with an even better showing in his junior season in 2012, leading WKU in tackles (122), forced fumbles (four) and quarterback hurries (three). He was named first-team All-Sun Belt Conference for the second-straight season, leading the Hilltoppers in tackling on six different occasions, making him WKU’s leading tackler in 14 of the last 26 games he has played.
Andrews led WKU in all-purpose yards (3,161), rushing yards (1,728), touchdowns (15), scoring (90), kick return yards (726), punt return yards (234) and carries (304) in 2012. His 3,161 all-purpose yards were the most in school history and the second-highest total ever behind 1988 Heisman Trophy winner Barry Sanders.
Andrews was also named the “Toughest to Bring Down” and “Special Teams Demon” in the Sun Belt Conference.
