Baseball, softball region tourneys kicking off today

The Region 4 baseball and softball tournaments begin today with four first-round games in each event at Western Kentucky University.
The baseball tournament was slated to begin at 10 a.m. today, with Logan County meeting Metcalfe County. Other matchups at WKU’s Nick Denes Field include Glasgow-South Warren at 1 p.m.; Russell County and Franklin-Simpson at 4 p.m.; and Greenwood and Allen County-Scottsville at 7 p.m.

The four winners advance to Tuesday’s 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. semifinals, while the championship is slated for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Region 4 softball tournament was scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at the WKU Softball Complex, with Cumberland County facing Todd County Central. Other first-round games include Bowling Green and Allen County-Scottsville at 1 p.m.; Greenwood and Glasgow at 5 p.m. and Franklin-Simpson and Metcalfe County at 7 p.m.
Edmonson County’s baseball team and softball teams are also in play today in Region 3 tournaments. Edmonson County was to meet Daviess County at 11 a.m. today in the opening round of the baseball tournament at Butler County. The Edmonson County softball team faces Breckinridge County at 5 p.m. today at Whitesville Trinity. Butler County’s softball team also qualified for the Region 3 tournament. It faces Owensboro Catholic at 1 p.m. today.
