The Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center (SKyPAC), in partnership with Orchestra Kentucky, announces auditions for the musical theater classic “West Side Story”, to be performed at the end of August 2013.
Inspired by Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”, “West Side Story” is a tale of immigrant families in New York’s West Side and the plight of young star-crossed lovers – Tony and Maria – attempting to create an idyllic world for themselves despite the warring gangs – the Jets and Sharks – from which they come.
Orchestra Kentucky will provide full, live orchestral accompaniment, as composed by Leonard Bernstein, with Jeff Reed as music director and conductor.
Auditions for roles portraying ages from 16 to 25 years of age and four adult male non singing parts will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, June 3, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and by appointment at SKyPAC. Those auditioning for gang member roles will be asked to sing and will be taught a short dance combination during the auditions. Previous experience is not required.
