Steve Green, four-time Grammy Award nominee and seven-time Dove Award winner, will not appear with Orchestra Kentucky in Broadway in Love, this Monday, April 22, 2013, 7:30 p.m. at the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center in Bowling Green. Although this would have marked Green’s debut, singing songs from musical theatre, he has canceled due to a severe upper respiratory infection. Tenor Tim King, who has appeared numerous times with the orchestra, will substitute. “Of course, I’m disappointed,” said Jeffrey Reed, Orchestra Kentucky music director and conductor. “But these things happen. Steve was apologetic, stating that it was the first time in 28 years that he has had to cancel. He knows his voice and knew that he would not be able to sing the demanding program by this weekend. He wanted to give us plenty of time to find a replacement. We are fortunate that Tim was available and willing to dive in,” said Reed.

Tim King is a seasoned performer, having appeared with the Buffalo Philharmonic, Louisville Orchestra, Chattanooga Symphony, and other regional groups. King will be joined by Bowling Green resident Jennifer Brennan-Hondorp and the Orchestra Kentucky Chorale for the program of hits from the “Great White Way”.

Selections for the evening are from the Broadway shows Evita, Les Miserables, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Mary Poppins,1776, Jekyll & Hyde, Top Hat, Sweeney Todd, Singin’ in the Rain, and The Music Man. Also featured will be a medley of hits written by Rodgers & Hammerstein and instrumental medleys from various Broadway shows.

Reed said that the concert will feature a wide variety for the audience. “We will perform great love songs like If I Love You from Carousel and Cheek to Cheek, made famous by Fred Astaire,” said Reed. In addition to the obvious topic of romantic love, the orchestra will feature other types of love. “For example, Bring Him Home from Les Mis is about Jean Valjean’s love for a young man whom he loves like a son,” said Reed.

The concert is sponsored by the Ervin G. Houchens Foundation and is co-sponsored by Don & Linda Vitale. The VIP Series, of which Broadway in Love is a part, is sponsored by the Haskins Foundation.
