- Girl Detective
The Before Broadway Series will present Girl Detective, a new musical with book and lyrics by Alan Gordon and music by Mark Sutton-Smith, at 2 p.m. Saturday (March 30).
Gordon, a New York City lawyer who is also a mystery writer with St. Martin’s Press, will attend the show that follows the adventures of a high school sleuth and features rock music.
The Department of Theatre & Dance show will take place in a staged reading format at WKU’s Russell Miller Theatre.
“With a staged reading, the emphasis is on performance and storytelling,” said director Tracey Moore, Assistant Professor of Theatre. “It teaches students to use all of themselves to tell the story.”
Moore said it is important to expose her students to new works. “What we are trying to do is to train the creative artist, rather than an imitative artist,” she said. “With new work, you cannot emulate other performances; you learn to create from scratch.”
Girl Detective, suitable for ages 13 and up, will be performed at 2 p.m. in the Russell Miller Theatre in WKU’s Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center. Tickets are $3 and will be available at the door. They can also be purchased in advance at wku.showare.com
