International Newgrass Festival director, Kenny Lee, announced today that the 2013 event will take place in both the Bowling Green KOA and in Basil Griffin Park August 21-24. New this year will be two extra days of music preceding the main event that will feature up and coming newgrass bands. The International Newgrass Challenge! on Wednesday and Thursday will offer Newgrass bands the opportunity to compete for the audience bestowed title of “Newgrass Festival’s Future Star Of Newgrass Music”.
“We’ve always been about celebrating the origins and the future of the art form. Hopefully this new event will expose you, and through you, the world, to the future stars of Newgrass music.” said Lee in an email to Kentucky Blues Society members.
Due to the limited number of full service camping spots, tickets for camping and the festival have already been put on sale and can be purchased online at www.newgrassfestival.com. RV spaces, cabins and tent spots are available at KOA.
Sam Bush and Curtis Burch have are confirmed performers for the 2013 event. John Cowan’s appearance will depend on his touring schedule with the Doobie Brothers.
“We are working with a lot of great artists from the Circles around Sam Bush and will present another great lineup.” according to Lee.
