Orchestra Kentucky presents a Christmas extravaganza, Home for the Holidays, on Monday, November 26th at 7:30 p.m. at SKyPAC. The concert is a part of the orchestra VIP Series.
Featured on the program is tenor Tim King, singing music made famous by Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, The Carpenters, and Bing Crosby. Mr. King has performed with orchestras all over the United States and is a local favorite, having sung with Orchestra Kentucky for nearly ten years.
WBKO’s Chris Allen will narrate the holiday poem ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, accompanied by the orchestra. According to music director Jeffrey Reed, “This setting brings the words of the poem to life. We hear snippets of famous Christmas carols, sleigh bells, and sound effects. It’s a lot of fun.”
The Nashville Choir’s 100 voices will join the orchestra for various carols, a sing-along, and Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus. The choir has shared the stage with Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant, Allison Krauss, Steven Curtis Chapman, and others. It recently recorded music for the Billy Graham Library and Disneyland.
Hearts in Motion Gospel Choir from Oslo, Norway, will join the festivities, adding an international flair to the concert. The group frequently serves as the house choir for the Nobel Peace Prize concert and has performed with Barry Manilow.
The grand finale, The Bells of Christmas, will feature the orchestra, both choirs, the Sanctuary Handbells from First Baptist Church Bowling Green, and a children’s chorus made up of members of the First Baptist Church children’s choir and Briarwood Elementary School.
Beginning at 7:00 in the lobby, the Sanctuary Handbells and the Bowling Green String Academy students of Jennay Keelin will play holiday music.
“This is evening is indeed a Christmas extravaganza,” said Reed. “Every square inch of the SKyPAC stage will be filled with musicians, filling the hall with wonderful holiday music! Oh, and Santa has promised to appear.”
Tickets may be purchased 24/7 by visiting the orchestra’s website, www.OrchestraKentucky.com. To charge by phone, patrons should call the orchestra office at (270) 846-2426, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
