Macy’s Logistics in Portland, Tenn., is looking to fill seasonal jobs with area college students and others needing a part-time job.

The order fulfillment center for Macys.com needs to hire 835 employees, according to Mareika Tisdale, a human resources recruiter for the company, who lives in Bowling Green.

Tisdale said the company is having an onsite job fair at 1155 Vaughn Parkway in Portland, during which they will conduct interviews, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 22. Tisdale also will be in Bowling Green from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Bowling Green Career Center at 803 Chestnut St.

Before then, applications are available online at www.macysjobs.com.

“This is a great way to make some extra money for the holidays,” Tisdale said.

Beginning salaries are from $9.10 to $11.35 an hour, depending on the position and the shift. Tisdale said there are both shorter and longer shifts available. While there are no benefits for seasonal employees, they do qualify for a Macy’s discount and other discounts offered to regular employees.

Tisdale said they already have begun hiring workers, with the season running through the end of the year.

There is a chance that some of those seasonal workers could become regular full- or part-time-employees, depending on what is available when the season ends, she said.

Anyone interested need not have any special skills. They do need to be over 18 years old and pass a drug screening and background check.

Tisdale said she hopes to have at least 1,300 applicants.

Tisdale said the drive to Portland is a quick one, so that shouldn’t discourage anyone.

“And it’s a good environment to work in,” she said.
