James E. ‘Jim’ Rogers

James E. “Jim” Rogers, 87, of Bowling Green, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the Greenwood Nursing & Rehab Center in Bowling Green.  

The Tennessee native was the son of the late Lester and Lena Rogers. He was a longtime member of White Stone Quarry Baptist Church, where he served as deacon. He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. Aeolian Lodge No. 51, the Bowling Green Chapter of Gideon’s International and the Warren Association of Baptists Executive Committee. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1952 and was an auto mechanics teacher at the Bowling Green Vo-Tech School.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Julia B. Rogers; and a sister, Etta Faye Carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Rogers of Bowling Green; a daughter, Sydney Fay Szatkowski (Art) of Michigan; a granddaughter, Krysta Puckett of Bowling Green; and several nieces and cousins from Georgia and Tennessee.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the J.C. Kirby & Son Broadway Chapel, with burial in Davis-Hoffman Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Broadway Chapel. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Gideon’s International.
