Mr. Carl R. Jones, 84, of Bowling Green, and a native of Chicago, died Saturday, April 28, 2012, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
Carl attended Englewood High School in Chicago and attended Roosevelt College, prior to his military career in the U.S. Army, along with office and combat leadership courses, Army Language School (Chinese-Mandarin), Artillery and Guided Missile, Advanced Managements and Leadership Course, Chemical, Biological and Radiological Course and Central State College, Wilberforce, Ohio.
Carl’s post-military career education included Lear Siegler Institute, Washington, D.C., and Gardner School of Business in Silver Spring, Md. Carl retired from the Army in 1969 after more than 24 years of dedicated, honorable service. Carl’s military honors included the Bronze Star and two Army commendations medals. Carl’s post-military employment included office manager and hospital unit manager at Children’s Hospital, Washington, D.C., accounting supervisor at National Labor Relations Board in Washington, D.C., director medical records department at Lincoln Hospital in Durham, N.C., and administrative assistant for Rochester-Olmstead County Consolidated Planning Department in Rochester, Minn. Prior to moving to Bowling Green, Carl was a self-employed tax and business consultant in Atlanta.
Carl has actively participated in several social and professional organizations. In recent years, he has been a member of Bowling Green Evening Lions Club, receiving Lion of the Year Award 2008-09 and serving as president 2009-10. Carl also enjoyed his membership and fellowship at the American Legion Post No. 23 and the VFW Post No. 1298. Carl volunteered with multiple youth activities and other community activities. He was also an instructor for AARP-sponsored 55 Alive Driver Safety Program. Carl was an avid bowler, participating on multiple teams while living in both Atlanta and Bowling Green. He participated in numerous tournaments, winning local, state and national awards. He loved his dog, Foxey, who adored him in return.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Jones and Susie Jacko Jones; a son, Derek Jones; and sisters and brother, Grace Britt, Erma Clark, Thelma Jones and Edward Jones.
Carl leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Mrs. JoAnn Jones of Bowling Green; a daughter, Mrs. Kiristi Mills of Yazoo City, Miss.; sons, Mr. Cornell Jones of Dallas and Mr. Mark Jones of Evanston, Ill.; grandchildren; Eric, Keith, Jaylin, Candace and Cornell; great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Maxwell; and a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation is Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Burnam & Son Mortuary, 201 Center St, Bowling Green, and Friday from 10 a.m. to noon at Murray Brothers Funeral Home in Atlanta. Interment is Friday at 12:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
