Sister Elaine Byrne, OSU

MAPLE MOUNT — Sister Elaine Byrne, 65, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Jan. 20 at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 47th year of religious life. She was a native of Curdsville.

Sister Elaine ministered at St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center, first as campus minister (1998-2006) and then as coordinator of liturgy and spiritual formation (2007-09). She ministered elsewhere in Kentucky and in Missouri.

Survivors include two sisters, Margie Rode of Whiteland, Ind., and Mary Lou Payne of Philpot; three brothers, J.L. Byrne, Tony Byrne and Eddie Byrne, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Byrne, all of Owensboro; nieces and nephews; and the members of her religious community.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Monday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.

Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, Owensboro, is in charge of arrangements.
