Repairing of sinkhole is a nice gesture

No one wants a sinkhole in their yard.

Not only is it an eyesore, it is a danger to landowners and their properties.

Unfortunately, sinkholes are something we must deal with here in Kentucky’s karst region, as one local family is now experiencing.

Amy Frcka lives off Old Porter Pike and says sinkholes have been in the back of her property for about a year and the backyard in the middle has started to sink toward the middle. Now, fissures have started to open about 5 feet from the back of her house.

Frcka says other parts of the neighborhood are dealing with sinkholes as well.

Having this sinkhole in this neighborhood could be very dangerous for her kids and others, which is why it needs to be fixed.

It is going to cost about $20,000 to have the sinkhole fixed, which Frcka said she can’t afford. Her husband is overseas in the military, and she works as a respiratory therapist.

Thankfully, Warren County Public Works Director Mac Yowell became involved and is going to help solve the problem by opening an account with Ray Lackey at Independence Bank for donations for the project.

The sinkhole is in the city limits and Yowell was informed that there was nothing they can do because it was on private property.

Yowell challenged people to chip in and help to get this sinkhole filled in and local construction company owner Mike Murphy is going to do just that.

This is an amazing story. These men didn’t have to get involved to help Frcka, but they saw a need and responded to it.

Filling the sinkhole is no small task. They are going to have to plug the sinkhole crevice and place good material in the yard and compact it. A lot of materials will have to be hauled off and then new fill material trucked back to the site.

This truly is a worthy cause and we applaud Yowell, Lackey and Murphy for helping out a neighbor in need.
