Leonard Jones

A Celebration of Life will be Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at 6 p.m. in Martin & Castille’s La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette, La., for Leonard Jones, 69, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at Lafayette General Medical Center.

The Rev. Louis Allen Breaux, pastor of St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church in Duson, will conduct the services.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Gloria Richards Jones; their son, Derrick Jones and his wife, Jayme Jones, of Baton Rouge, La.; their daughter, Julie Jones Hawley and her husband, Edward Hawley, of Columbia, S.C.; four grandchildren, Reece Jones, Enola Hawley, Riley Jones and Billy Hawley; one sister, Edna Flora of Warren County, Ky.; three brothers, Beachem Jones, Roger Jones and his wife, Dot Jones, and Wendall Jones and his wife, Wilma Jones, all of Albuquerque, N.M.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvis Jones and the former America Young, both natives of Warren County, Ky.; two brothers, Roy Jones and Raleigh Jones; and four sisters, Lois Cole, Orene Leist, Lucille DiGiunta and Ruby Friar.

Mr. Jones was born in Warren County, Ky., on March 7, 1942, and was a resident of Louisiana since 1961. He was a dedicated husband, loving father, an adoring grandfather and loyal friend. It is impossible to put into words how many lives he touched. He will truly be missed by all. Mr. Jones devoted 50 years of service to the oilfield and deservingly leaves behind his legacy on the rig “The Noble Leonard Jones.” He was a remarkable asset to Noble Drilling Co. and Cabot Oil. He loved to hunt and passionately cheered on the New Orleans Saints, LSU Tigers and Kentucky Wildcats. His achievements are endless and were honored in many ways. For over 30 years, he second-lined with Pete Fountain and the Half Fast Walking Club in New Orleans on Mardi Gras Day. He set an example for all who loved him on how to celebrate life each and every day. 

The Jones family requests a tree of your choice to be planted in memory of Leonard Jones.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille’s Southside location on Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, from 5 p.m. until time of the service.
