Western Kentucky junior guard Caden Dickerson is scheduled to have surgery on his left shoulder and will miss the rest of the 2011-12 season.
“He’s just not getting much better,” coach Ken McDonald said. “That’s frustrating.
“He opted not to go with the surgery in the offseason. I really hoped that it worked out for him, but he got a couple hits. Now it’s the best move for him health-wise to get him back to 100 percent.”
Dickerson will apply for a medical redshirt in order to have two years of eligibility left, McDonald said. Dickerson played in four games this season. He was 2 of 17 from the floor, 5 of 7 from the free-throw line and had seven rebounds. He also had six assists, two steals and a block.
The Argyle, Texas, native played in every game the past two seasons and led WKU (4-7) last year in three-point percentage at 38.8 and free throw percentage at 85. He averaged 5.9 points per game in 2010-11.
McDonald hopes Dickerson is able to return next summer.
“It is a four- to six-month rehab. Crazy,” the fourth-year coach said. “But the way he goes at it, he’ll be back soon.”
