Santa Claus is coming to town

Silver bells and marching bands fill the air as each town in south central Kentucky beckon Christmas joy with parades and the lighting of their squares, rolling out the red carpet for Santa’s upcoming late night ride.

As you check your list this season, keep an eye on the Amplifier online for a wide variety of Christmas and holiday events throughout the area as well as ideas for that special one of a kind present created by a local artist.   Many local artist have work available through their websites and Facebook pages as well as in local shops and studios.

Christmas offerings abound this year, for both adults and families.  Music is always an important component of the holidays and concerts featuring area orchestras, gospel singers and rock bands are taking place, several to raise funds for worthy causes, in locations ranging from nightclubs to churches and caves.

Christmas is also the star of the show on both stage and screen as productions from the WKU planetarium’s Star of Bethlhem to a new production of A Christmas Carol at Kentucky Repetory Theatre are presented.  Almost every theatrical troupe in the area has special productions to mark the holidays and more can be found in the form of online videos by local filmmakers.

Whether you’re looking to join the chorus in a cave sing or have tea in a victorian house adorned in Christmas cheer, there’s an event to ignite your spirits.  And don’t forget the beautiful trees of Christmas on display in several locations and the many opportunities to participate in the season of giving whether for a worthy nonprofit or helping Santa grant the wish of a local child.
