- Orchestra Kentucky Features the Music of ABBA
Orchestra Kentucky and Abbacadabra perform the greatest hits of the Swedish mega-group ABBA on Friday and Saturday, November 4th and 5th at 8:00 p.m.
ABBA, formed in Stockholm in 1970 consisted of Anni-Frid “Frida” Lyngstad, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Agnetha Fältskog They became one of the most commercially successful acts in the history of pop music, topping the charts worldwide from 1972 to 1982. ABBA has sold over 375 million records, which made them the fourth best-selling music artists in the history of recorded music, only behind Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Michael Jackson. They still sell between two to three million albums a year.
With their recent resurgence, responsible in part by the hugely popular live musical production and now the world wide release of Mamma Mia – The Movie, the music of ABBA is finding its way back into the hearts of those who lived it then and taking over the hearts of those who are experiencing it for the first time now. The tribute band, Abbacadabra, promises to continue the momentum by performing 20 of the group’s greatest hits in full ABBA fashion and flair. Songs like S.O.S. and Dancing Queen are re-created with the precision of the originals. The melodies of Fernando and Chiquita rekindle those feelings of first loves. Take a Chance on Me and Voulez Vous inspire audiences to want to dance. The show is authentic in music and dress and is performed in a way that will leave the audience excited and melancholy… at the same time.
The Ultimate ABBA Concert will be performed on Friday and Saturday, November 4th and 5th at 8:00 p.m. in Van Meter Hall on the campus of Western Kentucky University. Free shuttle busses will run from 6:30 until concert time from Mariah’s and The Brickyard Café. After the concert, they will return patrons to the same locations.
Tickets start at just $10 and are available online at www.OrchestraKentucky.com or by phone, (270) 846-2426 or, toll free, (855) 232-1452.
