Doctor Valerie Ann Slocum, 56, passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, in Denton, Texas, with her loving family by her side.
Memorial service is at 4 p.m. Thursday at White’s Azle Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Floyd Geary Scholarship Fund in honor of her son, Samuel Geary. Donations may be sent in care of White’s Funeral Home.
Doctor Slocum was born to Dan and Suzanne Bertram Wilson on Aug. 15, 1955, in Russell County. She was a longtime physician in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, practicing at Baylor All Saints, Texas Osteopathic Hospital and at the Sears Medical Clinic in Gainesville. Recently she was the director of the Dogwood at Home Health Care Center in Denton. Early in her career, she was a licensed midwife who was instrumental in bringing many lives into the world. This much traveled, most respected physician was preceded in death by her biological parents; and son, Samuel Geary, in 2007.
Survivors include a son, Jacob Geary and his wife, April, of San Antonio; a daughter, Rebecca May and her husband, Bret, of Conroe, Texas; grandchildren, Alana May, Adison May and Lauren Geary; stepmother, Sue Wilson of Bowling Green; former husband, Floyd Geary of Azle, Texas; and mother-in-law, Annie Geary; along with many loving family and friends.
