Barren River Lake State Resort Park invites guests to its annual Geocaching Weekend, Oct. 22-23.

Geocaching is an adventure game that uses technology and global positioning system (GPS) units to locate the cache. These units use satellites to determine your position on Earth and can be used to pinpoint locations.

Special caches will be hidden for participants to find that are suitable for all levels and types of “cachers.” There will be a beginners session, the Amazing Cache Race on Sunday, Caching for Clues and a chili dinner Saturday after the spooky night cache hunt as well. Set your GPS system to find Barren River Lake State Park and join the park for this fun family event.

Events begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 and go through Sunday. Registration is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 12 and under.  Contact Jamie Avery at 1-800-325-0057 or jamie.avery@ky.gov for more information.

The park is surrounded by rolling, tree-covered hills, on the edge of a beautiful 10,000-acre lake. The park has 51 lodge rooms, 22 cottages, and 99 campsites.  Enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of an upscale fish camp in the Driftwood Restaurant. If you are looking for something to do during your visit, you can play on the 18-hole golf course, hike along a nature trail, visit the marina to rent a boat, check out a fishing pole or sports equipment, browse the gift shop, or just enjoy a peaceful seat overlooking the lake.

The resort is located 44 miles southeast of Bowling Green. Take I-65 to the Cumberland Parkway east, to US 31E south.

The Kentucky State Park System is composed of 51 state parks plus an interstate park shared with Virginia. The Department of Parks, an agency of the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, operates 17 resort parks with lodges — more than any other state.
