The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the National Symphony Orchestra in association with the Kentucky Arts Council announce a call for proposals for the commission of a chamber work by a resident Kentucky composer. The composer will be commissioned to write a work of approximately 10-15 minutes duration for no more than six traditional orchestra instruments.

The winning composer will receive $5,000, air travel and hotel accommodations for the premiere performance at the Kennedy Center.

The commission award is a continuation of the National Symphony Orchestra American Residency Project of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The American Residency took place in Kentucky in 2011 with the Kentucky Arts Council as the in-state partner.

The Kentucky Arts Council is coordinating the application process for the Music Composition Commission. Application materials must be postmarked or hand delivered to the Kentucky Arts Council office by Sept. 28, 2011.
