Video: Cage the Elephant, what does it mean?

When Matt Shultz called to inform the Amplifier that Perfect Confusion was making some changes and reforming as Cage the Elephant, he cited the origin of the name as relating to the elephant as a symbol of good in India and how negativity in the world made it seem the elephant had been caged, making people feel hopeless. By 2010, with their success, entertainment media outlets began asking about the band’s name and its origins.  Always the storyteller and showman, Shultz replied with various intriguing tales, from an unstable street person shouting it as he ran through the streets, to dreams of marshmellows and chocolate.  The origin of the name has become a fishing tale destined to grow, limited only by the creativity of the imaginative group of artists that are Cage The Elephant.  A fan on youtube recently compiled clips of the name explanations which can be seen below.
