1st Annual Kelly “Little Green Men” Days Festival
Published 12:00 am Friday, August 19, 2011
It was a hot August afternoon, much like today, in Kelly KY in 1955. Elmer “Lucky” Sutton was unknowingly about to encounter the most frightful night of his life. This night was going to change his life forever. This night was going to put Kelly, KY on the map. Fifty six years later, we celebrate that night. What actually occurred on that fateful night is still a mystery, but we are determined to celebrate its occurrence!
Welcome to the first annual Kelly “Little Green Men” Days Festival! The Kelly Community Organization (KCO) is proud to present to the community a wholesome and fun event suitable for adults and children of all ages.
The Kelly “Little Green Men” Days Festival will be the KCO’s annual fundraiser for the purpose of building and maintaining a Community Park and Community Center for the residents and friends of Kelly KY. Plans are also being made to place in the park a fire department substation where Crofton VFD and West Side VFD can each park a fire truck for a more efficient response time in the event of an emergency in our community.
The Kelly “Little Green Men” Days Festival will consist of various arts and crafts booths, nonprofit and informational booths and of course food vendor booths. Be brave and try climbing the US Army 30 Foot rock wall. Locate the airbrush artist and get the Kelly Green Men Alien painted on your arm. Grab a deep fried Twinkie or slice of pizza and relax at the picnic tables. Learn more about the local CERT team, Red Cross or one of the local churches at one of the informational booths. Your possibilities for the day are endless. All vendor booths are open from 8am-8pm.
The Kelly Community Organization will have a central tent where you can pick up event souvenirs such as Little Green Men Days t-shirts, glow in the dark green bracelets and necklaces and Little Green Men buttons. In the tent you will also find drinks to cool off with, baked goods for sale from the baking contest and our very own Brunswick “Alien” Stew. Here is also where you can find the BBQ raffle tickets for $1.
We will begin the day with our Little Green Men costume contest and 1955 era Baking Contest with prizes for both events given during the opening ceremonies at 11am.
Meet Geraldine Sutton Stith, daughter of Lucky Sutton. Listen to the story of that night in 1955 as told to her by her father. Get an autographed copy of her book ‘Alien Legacy’ and read the story of the real Kelly incident. Learn how it affected the family, Kelly KY and still affects the UFO world today.
Brush up on your trivia for Kelly, Christian County, Kentucky and 1955 in general because there are great prizes available for random pop-up contests throughout the day.
Don’t forget to get your tickets for this years’ BBQ Theme raffle. Tickets are only $1 and will be available in the KCO tent. The drawing for the raffle will be held at approximately 5:45pm from the stage. The prize is a Master Forge Patio Barrel Charcoal Grill with built in temperature gauge, a bag of charcoal a Master Forge 4 pc. BBQ tool set and a Tyson grill cleaning brush. And just so you can put meat on the grill, a 10$ Kroger gift card.
On the WKDZ entertainment stage, you will hear spectacular music all day. From noon till 1:30 enjoy Southern and 70’s rock and country from the Black Cat Cadillac Band.
From 4pm-5:30pm, enjoy Classic and Southern Rock and Country from the Drive On Band.
AND…. Nashville’s up and coming artist, our feature artist, Tyler Matl on stage from 2pm-3:30pm!
If you think that is a lot of awesome music for one day…we are not done yet. There will also be wonderful individual artists filling in some open slots between bands and during breaks.
PLUS….time to praise the Lord for all of our blessing with the ‘Glennie Lankford Outdoor Gospel Sing’ from 6pm-8pm!
So grab your lawn chairs or a blanket to stretch out on. Come join us for great food, fun and fellowship and support your community!
