Local artists utilize online resource for funding projects

Last year we were introduced to Kickstarter through a local group attempting to fund a new all ages venue through the service.  Though they were unsuccessful, since then several local artists have achieved their goal and Technology Vs. Horse will be the 5th if they can muster supporters by the end of June.

Technology Vs Horse will soon be releasing their latest album Potential Pleasure Device and is using the Kickstarter site to solicit funding of a 7 inch vinyl single to commemorate the release.  Through the fundraising site they are seeking $500 to cover the cost of the project and so far $343 of that goal has been pledged.

Kickstarter works by having members commit to donations for projects which they select.  The donors credit card is only charged however if the entire funding goal is achieved.  Those seeking funding can offer various incentives to their backers.  In the case of Technology Vs. Horse pledge levels range from $1 to $500 with associated rewards ranging from “Unending gratitude from the group” to choosing the song that goes on the A side along with benefits of all the smaller levels.  Some of the levels in between include perks such as digital downloads, band shirts, handwritten lyrics, credit on the record sleeve and a dinner date with the band.

If they reach their goal, Technology Vs. Horse will join the company of four other Bowling Green artists who have had their projects successfully funded:  The Black Shades raised $805 towards their goal of $500 to finance travel to play at Red Gorilla Fest;  Singer/Songwriter Stephen Gordon successfully financed his upcoming album So Young Now with pledges of $10,812 towards his $10,000 goal; Filmmaker Tristan Grigsby collected $932 of his $700 goal to fund Psychesthenia, a short horror film; and Weisinger Publishing received $1,794 of their $1,500 goal to publish Taming Clancy: A Teen Read (without Vampires), a literary debut by a young writer.
