Joseph Eugene Meredith, 63, of Bowling Green, died at 9:50 a.m. June 9, 2011, at his home.
The Bowling Green native was born Nov. 16, 1947. He was a disabled U.S. Army veteran, having served in Vietnam. He received two Silver Stars, the Vietnam Commendation, the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was proud of these accomplishments and kept his medals in a shadow box to keep them untarnished, but he rarely discussed his tour of Vietnam. He was a sports enthusiast, loved family cookouts and his favorite holiday was Fourth of July with fireworks. He was a son of the late Henry Franklin Meredith and Victoria Lee Crabtree Meredith. He was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Lee Meredith; the mother of his children, Joyce Cardwell Meredith; and his second wife, Darlene Staten Meredith.
Funeral is at 1 p.m. Tuesday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Broadway Avenue chapel, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Survivors include a son, Wesley Meredith and his wife, Ann, of Norfolk, Va.; a daughter, Donna Faye Meredith of Bowling Green; four sisters, Joyce Miller and her husband, Paul, Marie Embry, Debra Poston and her companion, George Cardwell Jr., Shelia Black and her husband, Merle, all of Bowling Green; three brothers, Henry Richard Meredith and his wife, Mary, of Walters, Okla., Kenneth Wayne Meredith and his wife, Debbie, of Edmonson County, and Rex Harrison Meredith and his companion, Edna, of Bowling Green; a companion, Leann Jennings of Bowling Green; five grandchildren, Logan and Landon Meredith, Joshua Gulden, Chris Butler and Kim Butler; two stepgrandchildren, Kristan and Kera Keown; three great-grandchildren, Kaylie, Chole and Alexis; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
